When Does Back Flow Occur?

Backflow of water occurs when water from the sprinkler system reverses and enters the potable water supply of a home or business. In order to prevent this from happening, backflow preventers are installed.  These valves open when water is delivered through the sprinkler, but they close and prevent water from the irrigation from being pushed or siphoned back into the water supply.
